Hobbies

So, I have no hobbies. None. My life has consisted of school and work and then taking care of Josie. My hobbies were hanging out with friends until all hours of the morning, which totally rocked, but not so practical now. So my mom took me to JoAnn Fabrics and bought me some material to make some skirts and a cute bag. She wanted me to quilt something, and that didn't really seem to be my bag of tea. I felt too young, too alive, too fashionable. No offense to quilters out there. I need something imprecise and creative. Something like glueing things together like I used to do. No one who will read this knows what that means except Megan, sorry. Watercolor is cool, but I can't come up with anything to paint. (By the way, I painted a watercolor edition of "Lovers on the Beach" the other day. I painted a pear, and I tired to paint flowers--which I knew would be a disaster, and it was-- and I can't paint people. So I had to stick with fruit. I might try a bird next. Dan bought a songbird calendar.) So anyway, I feel like I'm a pretty artistic slash creative person, and I want to have a cool hobby that is inexpensive and relaxing.

So what do you do for hobbies? Do you have any good ideas I should try out?

Hello my wonderful friend! We so do miss you guys. I understand what you mean about hobbies. Its hard when you have kids isn't it? I was able to take my first "no kids" day a few weeks ago and went shopping with my Mom too. Funny. Lets see, what do I do for hobbies? Well I am sooo NOT creative or good with my hands, so my hobbies are pretty boring. Reading, blogging, emailing. Oh I do love making lists. So far I've started a recipe book, a book of songs my Mom taught us as kids, a family address list, a mission address list, and am now working on a list of all the games I know that are either card games or games that don't come in a box that are just in your head. I also have recently taken up writing in a journal again. Thanks to President Eyring! Love him! How about cooking, baking? bow hunting? computer hacking? Knum chucks? :-)

Okay so I don't have many hobbies either. I don't seem to have any time or money to devote to anything other than living. But I have in the past made quilts! I was totally laughing at your post about that. I don't actually "quilt" anything but I have made a bedspread and blankets for the girls and stuff. I found it to be an outlet for my creative side honestly. I LOVE picking the fabric and finding some cool pattern to put them into. That is seriously been like the only hobby that I have ever done and I haven't done it for probably four years now. So sad.

man i never used to have a hobby but then i graduated and moved home and had no friends and got a sewing machine. i started out making bags out of t-shirts and then i bought an Amy Butler sewing book and now i just do whatever, and i sew all the time even when i'm poor. my problem before was that i wanted a hobby but didn't find the right one. if it's not painting or quilting, maybe it's speaking french. ha. je blague.

French, bleh. Not because I don't think French is a beautiful language, but because I don't speak it. I have a learning disorder in French.

But to Jessica and Sarah, good ideas! I've started on my skirt and bag. Actually, they're just cut out, but hey, you gotta start somewhere.

I'm soooo so not crafty. There's a sewing club in my ward and i laugh at the thought of me being there. I'm kind of atypical like that.

To be honest, one of my great fears about having kids is being "just a mom" and losing my identity, no offense to anyone. Some people don't really know themselves until they have kids and that is their one "thing" and that's great for them but I never saw that for me. So i have tons o' things i do. Music is a big one but I do love to write and read and journal-keep.

Also, i just joined a band and am playing at a bar on Tuesday. :D Also, yesterday I just filmed a scene in a movie a friend of mine is making. I was the waitress. "How are you guys doing? Can i get you more coffee?" That's right! Academy Award, here I come.

You know, you should get a video camera and document everything about Josie. Fun little moments like feeding her and talking and having her do silly tricks. And then learn imovie or something and make DVD's. That would be priceless and such a good skill to have.

You should learn how to make stained glass windows.

This is a good blog question, thanks for letting me mooch ;)I also don't know what to do with myself sometimes other than baby & house care. I like Jen's idea about video taping and learning computer programs to make DVDs.
I know this sounds totally geeky, but I love doing my genealogy. I feel like a detective and it's cool to learn stuff about my family that no one else cares to find out and then tell them about it. I also like going and taking pictures of cemeteries for genealogy websites.
Good luck with the watercoloring, that is fun, I tried when i was pregnant-- sunsets are fun.

It's been a long time. Dave was excited to see that we have found you guys again. Congrats on the baby. So fun little girls are.
Well, I would suggest stamping as a hobby except it's not inexpensive. But you can make all sorts of fun things with only a few supplies. I really enjoy it and so do my girls. I also like sewing
